Why would I choose quarter sawn flooring over plain sawn?
Quarter sawn flooring offers aesthetic and structural benefits that cannot be achieved with a plain sawn process. Aesthetically, quarter sawing achieves more desirable grain patterns that are amazingly straight, and include Medullary Rays, also known as “ray fleck.” Structurally, quarter sawing results in more stable flooring that is less prone to twisting, warping, or cupping, wears more evenly, and is more resistant to moisture. Which wood species are used for quarter sawn flooring?
Timberline Hardwood Floors produces large quantities of unfinished and pre-finished oak hardwood flooring. White oak is our most popular choice, followed by red oak. We also produce quarter sawn maple, American cherry, hickory, ash, and walnut flooring. Visit our Products page to learn more.
Does the thickness of hardwood flooring really matter?
All the unfinished hardwood flooring we produce at Timberline Hardwood Floors is ¾” thick. The reasons we do this are two-fold:
